Best songs: top 10 ‘signature’ songs

Posted by Cila Warncke

Too many years in music journalism equals an irresistable impulse to make top 10 lists. Mr LK’s all time top 10 got me thinking.

I could never manage an all time top 10 but break it down a little and I’ll have a pop. So here goes my 10 favourite ‘signature songs’ (i.e. songs that define a particular artist)

1. New Order – Blue Monday
2. Michael Jackson – Billie Jean
3. Jeff Buckley – Hallelujah
4. Rolling Stones – Satisfaction
5. Patti Smith – Gloria
6. Nirvana – Lithium
7. Pulp – Common People
8. The Verve – Bittersweet Symphony
9. Bruce Springsteen – Born To Run
10. Depeche Mode – Personal Jesus

  1. the beauty of “all time” lists is that it forces you to really think about the songs that define you 🙂

i could list a hundred songs i absolutely love with a passion – but 10? – thats hard

thats why i had the caveat of the last 5 – the top 2 are set in stone, the next 3 are going to make the ten regardless of order – its the other 5 that changes depending on what tracks i remember the day you ask me 😉
